4/12 Shopping Trip April 13, 2011

Here are my CVS and Target finds from last night! I don’t really need anything, so I’m not buying much unless its something we’re low on or if its free!

CVS: 2 Cow Tales, 2 Circus Peanuts, Russell Stover egg, Essence of Beauty sanitizer, Orbit gum, bubbles. Retail Value $14. I spent $0.97 and got $3.73 back in ECBs!

Target: Green Works dish soap, bra, cardigan, dress, 2 chocolate Peeps, 4 M&Ms eggs, 2 Silk milk, 2 Crest toothpaste, French’s mustard. Retail Value $77. I spent $16!

Here is the dress I bought. I love it! LOVE the pockets! Wish I could get better pictures but my camera batteries are dead, so this will have to do.

Here’s the cardigan I found. I have been looking for the perfect black cardigan for years. Sure, I’ve seen lots of cute ones, but I can not pay full price. This is actually a maternity cardigan, but its a size Extra Small and it is absolutely perfect! Just what I wanted. Plus I paid $3.24-can’t beat that!

Definitely happy with my finds. Especially the cute clothes. :o)

Birthday party on a budget-Gift bags April 11, 2011

We are getting ready to have my Aaron’s 5th birthday party this weekend. He picked a Spongebob party. (I’m pretty sure the only reason is because last summer he saw this huge pineapple cake at the grocery store, and he’s remembered it up until now. He wants that cake, I don’t think he really cares about the party, lol). I am not trying to spend hundreds of dollars on his birthday. I adore the little punk, but we have a budget to stick to. One of the most important parts of the boys parties (to me anyway) are the gift bags for the kiddos that come. This is so important to me because we love the little munchkins that come, and we want to show them that we love them and that we’re so happy that they came! I have actually been shopping for things for the gift bags since a little after Christmas. Sometimes you have to think outside the box a little, and that’s what I tried to do. Of course its easy to go to Target/Walmart/Party City, buy the big bag of candy and a bunch of expensive Spongebob stuff, but we just can’t do that. In total I spent about $17 total, or $1.54 for each bag. If I would’ve bought these things without trying to save money, it would’ve cost $138! Goodness! Plus since I’ve been shopping here and there for almost 4 months, the money didn’t bother us at all! Here’s what went in the bags.

-Full size Mentos-Regularly $0.88, on sale 2/$1, I had $0.50 coupons, so I got them all for free!
-Air Heads-Regularly $0.88, on sale for $0.69, I had $0.50 coupons, so I paid $0.19 for each 6 pack (only 4 went in each bag)!
-Krabby Patties-$2 for a bag of 30!
-Spongebob Fruit Roll Ups-$3 for a box of 20!
-Chocolate Coins-we thought they could be pirate coins :o)-$1 each on clearance for $0.25 for each pack of 9!
-Glittery balls-Regularly $4 EACH (what?!?!), I got them on clearance for $0.08 each!
-Bob the Glob-Regularly $1.50 each, I got them on clearance for $0.08 each!
-Bubbles-Regularly $3 for a 6 pack, I got them on clearance for $0.50!
-Spongebob baggies (for the candy)-$1 for a box of 20!
-Toothbrushes-Would’ve cost around $30 for all, I got them all for free!
-Pencils-$1 for a pack of six!
-Playdoh-$5 for a 10 pack, I got it on clearance for $1.21!
-Stickers for inside the bags-$1 for 8 sheets!
-White bags to hold everything-I used a $0.50 coupon off of $1.20, so only $0.70, plus I have 20 still left over!
-Stickers to decorate the outside of the bags-Regularly $3, I got them on clearance for $0.74

I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out! I wrote everyone’s name on the white bags, and then Aaron is going to decorate them with stickers. He also helped me put everything in the bags too. He’s very excited for his party. :o)

4/7 Shopping Trip! (and a tiny rant!) April 8, 2011

I feel like I had a realistic shopping trip last night. Lately all I’ve been hearing about is that new couponing show, which is basically about these greedy, hoarding, shelf clearers who’s every waking minute is focused on coupons and who take 2 hours just to check out and have a grocery store in their garage (not all of them are, but most). That is NOT a realistic look at couponing. You can not go to the store and get $2000 worth of groceries for $1 every week. It isn’t real. Actually if you do a little research, you’ll find that one person on this show uses her coupons fraudulently. She might as well just go in and steal thousands of dollars worth of groceries. People like her are hurting those of us who use coupons correctly (and legally!!). Sometimes I get a lot of negative feedback for being a couponer. I have had cashiers who are downright mean, I’ve been cussed out by people in the line behind me (even though I always tell people behind me I have coupons), I have had people treat me like a theif and one time someone even called me that after getting a lot of stuff for almost nothing… I don’t understand it at all. I always make sure that I use my coupons the RIGHT way. I never clear the shelves. On the show there was a woman who bought 70 bottles of mustard. And her husband doesn’t even use mustard! Who needs 70 bottles of mustard? I will stock up on things that we use, plus I also give things to friends and family when they need it. Couponing lets me help people when I otherwise couldn’t. It allows me to make sure my family has everything they need. It allows me to stay home with my boys and still be able to contribute. I like making my hubby’s hard earned money stretch as far as it can. Couponing and learning how to shop better has changed my life. I remember when we couldn’t wash our clothes because we couldn’t buy laundry detergent until pay day. I will never go back there!

So that is my rant. I’m tired of the negativity associated with couponers. But sometimes I feel like I have the last laugh. Like a few weeks ago when some guy yelled and cussed at me. Well I spent $2 and he spent $90. Take that, jerk!
